It was a beautiful early fall day at Husky Stadium as the 8th ranked Huskies welcomed the Idaho Vandals from the Sun Belt Conference. This one wasn’t expected to be close, and it lived up to the promise. The Huskies pummeled Idaho 59-13. Jake Browning had 5 touchdown passes and the defense was stellar as usual.
The 2016 college football season kicked of Labor Day weekend with the 14th ranked Washington Huskies looking to do some big things this year. If Saturday was any indication, it could be an exciting year. The Huskies hosted the Rutgers Scarlet Knights from the BigTen and dominated right from the start on way to a 48-13 win. The return of speedster John Ross was a huge impact with three touchdowns in his first game since missing last season with a knee injury.
A beautiful clear, cold November Friday was the stage for the 108th Apple Cup in Seattle for the state’s bragging rights. The Cougars were ranked 20th in the poll but were missing star QB Luke Falk to a concussion the previous week. The Huskies were playing for the chance of a sixth win that would get them to a bowl game. But as you know, once the ball is kicked, you can throw that all out the window. What it all came down to was Myles Gaskin running like a beast and the Defense getting three pick-sixes from Sidney Jones, Darren Gardenhire and Akeem Victor leading to a convincing 45-10 win for the Dawgs over the Cougars.
